Lawve AI x OpenAI
Lawve AI is a launch partner of OpenAI's Astra for Law, bringing skills written by legal practitioners into ChatGPT.
On 17 September, OpenAI introduced OpenAI Astra for Law (opens in a new tab), built on GPT-6 Astra, with a legal search index and plugins from partners including Thomson Reuters, Harvey, Legora and iManage. Lawve AI is one of the launch partners. The OpenAI Lawve plugin for ChatGPT (opens in a new tab) lets ChatGPT find and apply skills written by legal practitioners, with the name of the practitioner who wrote each one.
With Astra for Law, ChatGPT can cite US case law and statutes from OpenAI's legal search index. The plugin adds how a practitioner works through a task, such as which checks to run and in which order.
A skill in practice
Ask ChatGPT to assess a new software vendor before you sign. ChatGPT finds Patrick Munro Vendor Due Diligence (opens in a new tab), a skill by a senior legal counsel at Capgemini, and runs its checks on the documents you shared.
You describe the task in your own words, and ChatGPT searches Lawve for a skill that fits the task, the jurisdiction and the language. It tells you which skill it chose and who wrote it before it follows the method. You can open the full method and check each step against your own practice.
Methods from practitioners
When Astra for Law launched, the Lawve catalogue held 271 public skills from 72 authors in 24 countries. Lawyers, in-house counsel, academics and legal engineers write them, each in their own field. An author publishes a skill once on Lawve, and people can use it in ChatGPT, in Claude or in any assistant connected to Lawve.
Many legal teams already work in ChatGPT every day. With the plugin, they can use the methods practitioners publish on Lawve there, and see whose method each answer follows.
Your data
The plugin is read-only and reaches only the public catalogue. ChatGPT sends Lawve the search terms it uses to find a skill. Your documents and the rest of the conversation stay in ChatGPT. Skills support professional review. They are not legal advice.
