Legal translation skill for Claude:
After being inspired early in the year by the likes of Antoine Louis, Jamie Tso and Elgar Weijtmans, I spent the last weeks in the figurative garden shed working on my own 'Claude' skill (which, by the way, can also be used in all other leading AI models such as ChatGPT).
Having a direct need in my daily work to translate legal documents, I have created the 'legal-translation' skill that translates those documents into publication-ready English. Hand it a Word file in any language; get back an English .docx with formatting preserved.
After extensive testing on all types of documents, including those with track changes and comments, it delivers notably higher quality than, say, Legora’s DeepL tool. It has built-in general English dictionaries for 14 fields of law, plus specific phrasebooks for 11 languages, including Spanish, French, Italian, German, Dutch, Polish, Chinese and Japanese.
It reorders definitions, makes sure track changes read correctly accepted or rejected and deals with non-Latin languages significantly better. Yes, it takes longer than other tools, but the increase in quality makes up for that.
Hopefully this will be useful for many of you - for me it definitely is.
