Over the years, I’ve realized that one of the first questions in nearly every transaction involving a foreign investment angle is: does this require Government approval or can it proceed under the Automatic Route?
While this may seem straightforward, the analysis often involves navigating sectoral caps, entry routes, land border country restrictions, and the ever-evolving FEMA and NDI framework. This question typically serves as the starting point for most diligence exercises and transaction structuring discussions.
To address this, I have developed a skill that translates this practical workflow into a usable AI tool. It systematically:
• Gathers key transaction details
• Evaluates sectoral entry routes and caps
• Assesses applicable land border country restrictions
• Generates a preliminary compliance note indicating whether Government approval may be required.
I would genuinely appreciate feedback from users, particularly regarding usability, edge cases, and areas for improvement in reasoning.
